The City
A city split into three parts with three city centres, Qingyuan connects Guangzhou – the capital of Guangdong – to the north of the province.
What to see
See Jiangbin Park in the south ‘small city’, and Zhongshan Park in the middle ‘city zone’. For a day trip, visit one of the mysterious naturally-formed caves, such a Lianzhou Underground River, Yingde Baojing Palace, Shenbi Cave and Jinlong Cave, to take in some natural beauty.
What to do
Visit Nanling National Nature Reserve and visit Guangdong Number One Peak – the highest peak in Guangdong. Here you can visit a number of scenic spots, like villages of the Yao people, springs and waterfalls. To appreciate more about the Yao people, you can also visit the Sanpai Yao Village.
For a little rest and relaxation, check out one of the city’s many hot spring resorts. And for shopping, visit Qingyuan City Square in the northern city centre, ‘Qingxin’, and City Plaza in the middle ‘city zone’.
What to eat
Qingyuan chicken is one of the most famous foods of the region: simple but delicious, the chicken is boiled and served with soy sauce and ginger.
Did You Know?
Although the area has a long history, Qingyuan city is itself relatively young, having been officially established as a prefecture-level city in 1988 – before, it was a county.
